Ciardes and Stava Waalweg paths

From the idyllic village of Ciardes to Juval castle high above Naturno.

Having left our car at the parcing space above the centre of Ciardes, we follow trail no. 3, the Ciardes Waalweg path, admiring the water channels, which were partly built by hand by the farmers of the Val Venosta.

The trail leads gently upwards until Juval castle, the summer residence of the famous alpinist Reinhold Messner. At the Sonnenhof farm under it we have a rest and a refreshing drink on the sunny terrace. Right behind the Sonnenenhof farm, the trail leads down to the Stava Waalweg path. This water channel is not used anymore. Under the Ciardes Waalweg path, the Stava Waalweg path leads back to the village of Ciardes, our starting point.
