The pastures of Monte Hirzer

The highest mountain of the Sarentine Alps boasts four lovely pastures, which are definitely worth seeing.

- estimated hiking time: 2 ½ hours
- altitude difference: 642 m

Starting point is Saltusio, at the beginning of the Val Passiria valley. From here a cable car takes you to the hamlet of Talle di Sopra at 1,375 metres and further to the summit station called Bergflur Klammeben (1,980 m). In case you might also travel to Talle di Sopra by car and then continue by cable car.

Trail no. 40 leads slightly downwards and further to a mountain hut named Hirzerhütte, featuring the lovely Tallner Alm inn. Continue upwards to the old Tallner Alm hut at 2,017 m. From here path no. 1 takes you across pastures and larch woods until, after an hour or more, you reach the Hintereggalm hut (1,990 m). From here, you hike further towards a hut called Mahdalm.

Following a sign saying “Tall” you will arrive to trail no. 2, which takes you downwards to a little saddle and further to the Gampenalm (1,880 m). Continue on an ancient path and a broad forest road across shadowy woods and back to the hamlet of Talle di Sopra.

Every hut, except the old Tallner Alm hut, serves food and beverage.

All in all a fairly nice trip I'd say :-)
