Cure Promenade

Past gorgeous flowers and rich green palms

Where marvellous flower beds and Mediterranean palms are decorating the town, amidst wild waters on one side and historical buildings on the other, right there stretches the Cure Promenade of Merano.

Once the promenade was named after the archduchess Gisela, daughter of the Austrian empress Sissi. Only in 1874 the House of Cures was built, it got its current name. Set between two pretty bridges, Ponte Teatro in the south and Ponte della Posta in the north-east, the promenade is a lovely place on the sunny banks of the Passiria river. Here you will find lovely Italian cafes and ice cream parlours, playgrounds for kids and fascinating flowers. And in winter, the promenade hosts the local Christmas market, with its charming wooden houses and a beloved train for the little ones.

Besides the Cure Promenade, there are numerous other walks and promenades in Merano. When walking from Ponte Teatro towards the south, you arrive to the former Stefanie Promenade, which is a tad purer and simpler than the majestic Cure Promenade. It is, however, nice to walk on and takes you to the local lido.

At the northern end of the Cure Promenade, there is the oh so sunny Winter Promenade. Due to its sheltered position it is especially popular in late autumn and winter. At the opposite side nestles the Summer Promenade. Gigantic trees, cottonwoods and cedars promise lots of recreation and refreshing moments particularly on hot summer days.

From the Winter Promenade another promenade takes you even further towards the wild waters of the Passiria river. It is the Gilf Promenade, which ends right beneath the mighty walls of Castello Zeno. Here, a rather steep path takes you to an impressive tower. Here you can gain a stunning view of Merano and the surrounding Val d'Adige and afterwards, walk along one of Europe's most fascinating high-altitude promenades towards the picturesque hamlet of Lagundo.
