Hiking to the Alpine pastures of Avelengo

A perfect hiking tour for day in spring, summer or autumn in the surroundings of Merano with starting point at Avelengo.

This fairly moderate hike takes you over a distance of 16 km and along well-marked trails. Strong boots are recommended!

Starting point is the parking site at the village centre of Avelengo. Walk towards the town hall to trail no. 2A, which takes you along a forest road for 1 ½ hours and up to a hut called “Wurzer Alm” at 1,707 m.

Continue on trail no. 2 and after half an hour you will reach a hut named “Vöraner Alm” (1,873 m). Here you may go for a little break, but remember: the hut is opened from the middle of May to early November only.

Hike further on trail no. 11A first and trail no. 11 later, until you reach the Leadner Alm hut at 1,514 m. Again you might have a little break or continue on path no. 16 immediately back to the starting point in Avelengo.
