Meran Promenaden > Winterpromenade

Winter promenade

As its name reveals, this promenade is perfect for a walk in the cold season, as it is sun-spolit and sheltered from the wind.

At the north riverbank of the Passirio, from the Kurhaus towards east, the winter promenade runs from the historic centre of Merano almost to the Passiria town gate. A striking building, right at the beginning of the path, is the so called Wandelhalle, an arcade in Art Nouveau style which since 1889 has been used for cultural purposes. It has been constructed on the initiative of Franz Tappeiner.

At the east end there is the Ponte Romano, a bridge across the Passirio, which dates back to the 17th century. It represents the connection to the summer promenade on the other side of the river. The romantic Gilf promenade is the trail that follows after the winter promenade.
