Summer promenade
Summer at Merano can be quite hot. Along the summer promenade you can perfectly cool down in the shadow of huge trees along the river.
On the southern side of the Passirio river, from Ponte della Posta towards Val Passiria, there is a popular promenade of Merano which is lined by huge trees and various plant species. The summer promenade boasts plants such as Lebanon cedars, sequolas, poplars and pines from different climatic zones. A perfect place for hot summer days.
The Merano summer promenade has been established in 1866 and takes promenaders along the Passirio to the Ponte Romano. At the entrance to the summer promenade there is also a monument reminding on the stays of the Empress Elizabeth at Merano. At the same time this monument represents the end of the „Sissi path“, starting at Trauttmansdorff Castle.
Particularly impressive is the course of the promenade from the city park to the savaged water meadow. The more you walk to the east, the more you get closer to the Passirio riverbed and its natural riverside. That much nature makes you forget that actually you are in the heart of the city.
