South Tyrolean Cultural History Museum

The South Tyrolean Museum for cultural history is located at Tirolo Castle, Merano.

At Tirolo Castle close to Merano, there is a museum which might cast a spell over those who are interested in culture. The Museum of Cultural History has once been family seat of the Counts of Tyrol. For this reason Tirolo Castle boasts a considerable number of evidence, which is complemented by media presentations. The museum in the historical walls has been established in 2003 and offers an interactive trail on cultural history, arts and social history.

Also Mediaeval everyday life is presented at Castel Tirolo in a demonstrative and comprehensive way. The history of the 20th century is illustrated in 20 levels, providing information about how South Tyrol developes, as well as on autonomy and other crucial topics.

Three churches have been excavated at Tirolo Castle. The walls of the younger one is backing on the older ones. The comprehensive historical repertoire at Tirolo Castle is continually completed by contemporary exhibitions.
