Bavaro Castle

Castel Bavaro is located in the west of Nalles at the top of a rocky hill at Sirmiano di Sotto.

Castel Bavaro was established in the 13th century by the Counts von Payr. Part of this structure is a donjon which has once been inhabited. Barbican and turrets have only been added in the 16th century by Jakob von Boymont-Payrsberg. Barbicans served as fortification of the castle on the rocks. One of the four sides of the castle is not precipitous, for this reason this side has been intensely used to fortify the construction.

The donjon and detached castle chapel protect and decorate the castle complex, still today.
From 1244 to 1791 the County von Boymont were in charge of Bavaro Castle. Since 1560 the above mentioned architectonic elements have been added, one decade later a fire destroyed the village.
Today the original castle structure is rather ruinous, while the elements dating back to the 16th century are quite well preserved. A circular arc is also illustrated on the emblem of the Boymont-Payrsberg family.
