Aura Castle

The Lords of Auer above Tirolo are often mentioned in the history of Tyrol.

Castel d’Aura is located at the entrance of Valle di Sopranes at Tirolo. Since the end of the 13th century this castle complex has been known. The part which today is used as residential building has only been documented in further centuries.
When the Lords of Auer surrendered possession, the castle repeatedly changed hands and lost its lordly appearance. One of the last aristocratic families was the Giovanelli family. The earls owning the castle today and provided for the reconstruction of the castle in original style are the Counts von Khuen.

Castel d’Aura has pretty sure never been a defensive castle, as it has not been safeguarded on three sides. There is no defensive tower, the circular wall is coronated with crenel and overgrown by ivy.
Residential building, farm building and residential rooms for servants are included in the complex and there is also a little castle chapel boasting a winged altar. Also frescos and a beautiful late Gothic living room stood the test of time. Today the castle is inhabited and cannot be visited.
