Grand Prix Merano

The Gran Prix Merano is a highly remunerated horse race marking also the end of the racing season on the Maia Bassa Ippodrome.

Already in 1896 there has been the first horse race in Merano, to the delight of the noble visitors. In 1900 the ippodrome in Maia Bassa has been constructed and since 1935 the “Gran Prix” of Merano fascinates its visitors. Today it is doubtlessly the highlight of the racing season and at the same time the last competition in the racing season. Moreover this race is coupled with the Merano Lottery and since its beginnings it has been remunerated with the highest prize money.

This steeplechase is particularly popular also due to the fact that it takes place in sight of the public and can be observed with the naked eye. Also the obstacles such as the fence, water ditch and on-fence are located right in front of the grand stands.

Of course in this event you can also enjoy creature comforts as well as a diversified fringe programme between the single competitions for adults and children.
