Schnals Kurzras Masocorto Senales

Maso Corto

Located at 2,011 m asl, Maso Corto is probably the most ancient village of the valley.

Maso Corto is located at the head of Val Senales - directly from the village, the glacial cable-car transports skiers and snowboarders from October to May into the skiing area. Already in the 50s, Maso Corto used to be a popular destination for skiing pioneers, while in the 70s the village has bit by bit become a winter sports destination, equipped with the appropriate facilities. Only the church at the entrance of the village as well as the Kurzhof farm have been preserved from these days.

Located at the head of the valley, Maso Corto is an ideal starting point for several hikes and mountain tours on the surrounding mountains of 3,000 metres. From Maso Corto you can also make cross-border hikes, such as the 7-hour tour to Vent in North Tyrol. As far as promenading is concerned, we particularly recommend a walk round the Vernago lake. If you prefer higher realms, take the Lazaun chairlift or the cable-car, taking you to 3,200 m asl.

A highlight is the march of the sheep in spring and autumn, when thousands of sheep, together with their shepherds, walk to the alpine pastures in spring where they spend their summer and come back in autumn. On this occasion the sheep and shepherds are warmly welcomed with a great celebration that you don’t have to miss out.
