Madonna di Senales
Located at 1,500 m asl, Madonna di Senales is considered the main village of the valley.
Madonna di Senales is the largest village of the valley and is located in picturesque location at an altitude of 1,500 m asl. The history of the valley starts in the year 1304 with the discovery of a 13 cm high statue of the Virgin Mary, which is is still kept in safe custody in the monstrance of the church. Also the pilgrimage church is worth seeing: this late-Gothic building, converted to Baroque style in 1765, its construction is illustrated on six pictures.
Inspired by the finding of the Iceman Oetzi, at the edge of Madonna di Senales there is an interesting museum called ArcheoPark. This museum provides information on the lives of people living in the period of the Iceman. In the open air area, there are Neolithic huts, from here you can see the Giogo di Tisa, the place of discovery of the Iceman.
Madonna di Senales is an ideal place for all those who seek relaxation, providing great conditions for hiking in summer months. Great conditions on the slopes from October to May, that’s what you can expect at the glacial skiing area of the Val Senales, which is only a stone’s throw away.
