Val Senales

Val Senales is characterised by a fairytale-like natural landscape as well as a worldfamous skiing area.

Val Senales is located at an altitude of 1,245 and 2,001 m asl and is worldfamous. It extends in the lower Val Venosta valley, about 10 km from Merano and includes the localities Monte Santa Caterina, Certosa, Madonna di Senales, Vernago al Lago (see fig.) and Maso Corto as well as Val di Fosse in the nature park Gruppo di Tessa.

Maso Corto, located at 2,000 m asl is considered to be the most popular and best-known, as it features a year-round skiing area, where many national teams exercise in summer months. Those who love hiking can make a tour to the place of discovery of Ötzi, the Ice Man, which can be reached from Vernago. This village is located at the homonymous lake, which offers a round trail for those who love walking.

The village of Madonna di Senales features a very famous pilgrimage church. Moreover there is the ArcheoParc, an adventure museum where you can discover people in the age of Ötzi, the Ice Man, used to live.

Certosa is a village of scarcity value and it centred out of the Carthusian monastery, which was established in 1326 and shut down in 1782. The monastery can still be visited today and is also venue for different art exhibitions in summer.

By the way: those who do not yet know the Val di Fosse should walk across this fabulous area, as it is characterised by a unique flora and fauna and a fairytale-like natural landscape.
