Val Passiria

A popular summer and skiing resort

Colourful Val Passiria might actually be divided into two parts. While lower Val Passiria features a gentle sub-Mediterranean climate and is thus the ideal place for apple and wine-growing, upper Val Passiria is a rather mountainous area, ideally-suited to refreshing hikes in summer and skiing in winter.
The valley makes up a large part of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park, featuring a highly diversified flora and fauna. Did you know that the valley boasts the largest high-alpine lake area all over South Tyrol? Just ask for the nine “Spronser lakes”.

One of South Tyrol's most famous inhabitants, the freedom fighter Andreas Hofer, was born here and still today there are quite some interesting people living in this enchanting valley.
The sporty ones will find all they can wish for, from rafting and canyoning to horse riding and trekking; not to forget the 18 holes golf course near to San Martino.
In winter, the lovely hamlet of Planes turns into a great place for skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding alike. And those driving up to renowned Passo Giovo will soon come to a further ski area, called Racines-Passio Giovo.

At an altitude of 2,355 m you will find the adventure mine of Monteneve. From June 15 to October 15 you can reach it only by foot. To get there you can choose from several hiking routes, all of them starting near to the road towards Passo Rombo. Don't miss the hilarious ride with the adventurous miners' railway..
